I had run out of my sample Prilosec OTC at this point and was onto the paid ones. I learned that I was taking a proton pump inhibitor and may have been shutting down production of digestive acid.

no discomfort, I went to CVS and got a 14 day package of Prilosec OTC for about $12, as the 6 sample pills that my doctor gave me would soon be running out. Despite being called OTC (over the counter), you just pick them OTS (off the shelf).

In early 2007 I started feeling discomfort in the upper digestive tract, especially after eating. The pain was a dull one, never sharp and incapacitating, but bothersome. It was similar to the feeling that you get when you want to burp. There was never any burning sensation or regurgitation. At the time, I put it down to several possibilites, the first which I will discuss in this post:

I was taking a medication for cholesterol at the time, Lovastatin. I had been told that one of the possible negative effects of this was muscle pain. As I had only been taking it a few months, I attributed the digestive discomfort to this medication. So I ceased taking it. My doctor would not be pleased, however he had said that if I felt any pain to stop taking it.

I did for six weeks, however, the feeling continued. Obviously, Lovastatin had nothing to do with this problem.
